Esclet and St. Andreu Salou
:
Maximum duration:
This is a very flat route through the paths among Llagostera, Cassà and Caldes de Malavella. Once we have gone up Ridaura valley, we have a large panoramic view over the sown and fodder fields, the poplar groves and the forest clearings. The whole landscape is watered by different streams (Gotarra, Benaula, Verneda...) that flow into Onyar river.
The first stop is Sant Vicenç d’Esclet, a simple hermitage, which is attached to Mas Vilabella and is surrounded by crop fields. Esclet had once a railway station in the narrow-gauge railway line from Sant Feliu to Girona and named the spot, with different dispersed masies and arable and livestock farming. Inhabitants from Cassà celebrate a festive gathering on Sant Vicenç day, in January. We’ll cycle through crop fields and woods to Sant Andreu Salou, a place that will not let you down. Like a little Toscana, it is a peaceful, beautiful and quite place. Don’t forget to look at the back dxof the church, which has simple but very balanced and elegant lines.
We’ll come back to Sant Feliu by Verneda and Panedes plains. We’ve met the participants of the Trailwalker Solidarity Race all along the parts of the cycling path that we’ve used in this long route. They put a great effort and are very supportive. They share the greenway with hikers, cyclists, runners and families that walk in it. It turns into a big party of the greenway and the cycling path.
