:
Maximum duration:
It is a very interesting route that crosses a large part of the Ardenya, by mountains like Terra Negra and Serra de Caules to find the impressive Sant Iscle medieval castle in Vidreres.
Once we are in Llagostera, we’ll go to Sant Llorenç to climb to mas de la Ruïra. We’ll go down to cross Terra Negra woods and arrive to the col where, at the other side, there is the road we’ll take to ascent to can Mundet in Santa Susanna de Caules. After that, a steep descent will lead us to the mystery zone of can Llober marshes and later, to Sant Iscle Castle. The fortified castle has a rectangular plan with circular towers, surrounded by a moat. Archaeological excavations are regularly carried out. The eastern wall is the most well-preserved and it is 10m high. The castle was mentioned for the first time in 1194 as it was linked to Cabrera viscounty like other fortifications of the zone. It was occupied by peasants in 1485, during Remences wars (peasant revolt). We’ll come back through can Llobet and we’ll take the path from ca l’Aulet to Selva and Santa Ceclina Mills. We’ll keep on cycling to Llagostera and Sant Feliu.
It is a circular route, 65 km long, to discover the enigmatic marshes and stroll around this wonderful Sant Iscle Castle that stood up in a north-western hill, in Ardenya Cadiretes Mountains. It is highly recommended.
